Boys Planet‘s Zang Hao is under fire for singing at a Chinese Communist Party event commemorating China fighting alongside North Korea during the Korean War.
On April 20, Zang Hao was announced the winner of Mnet‘s Boys Planet audition program. Zang Hao, alongside eight other participants, will now debut as ZEROBASEONE.
Fans’ congratulatory messages didn’t last long, however, when on April 24, it was revealed that the idol had participated in a Chinese Communist Party event commemorating China’s involvement in the Korean War. The event reportedly memorialized Chinese soldiers as heroes for fighting in the war that killed millions and split the Korean peninsula in two.
The Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953, was fought between communist North Korea and South Korea. The fighting escalated when America and China joined the war, fighting alongside South and North Korea, respectively.
Netizens reacted in anger at the revelation. Many criticized Mnet and the show’s audiences for choosing him. Some even alleged that Korean audiences already knew this, but still picked him.
