SUMMER OF K-POP: Seventeen – 20 – KpopHit

There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.

There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.

So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Seventeen – 20 (2015)

Seventeen were incredibly assured in their sound and concept from the get-go, and that included unit tracks that drew upon the various members’ strengths. 20 brings together the group’s vocal team, but rather than the expected ballad, it offers a pleasant, guitar-strumming mid-tempo. This being debut-era Seventeen, the track still manages to be rhythmic and funky, with head-nodding verses that bloom into a lengthy, well-developed chorus. Its carefree vibes paint the image of a lazy drive along the oceanside, radio turned up and summer breeze blowing through your hair.
