The film “Parasite” was awarded the title of Best Film of the year at the 9th AACTA International Awards.
The 9th Australian Academy Cinema Television Arts (AACTA) International Awards were held in Los Angeles, U.S. on January 2 (local time). It is an awards show held annually by the Australian Film Institute that celebrates the best that film has to offer across all continents.
This year, director Bong Joon Ho’s film “Parasite” took home the award for Best Film of the year, going up against fierce competition by other nominees “The Irishman,” “Joker,” “The King,” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
“Parasite” is a black comedy film that puts the wealth inequality of Korean society in the spotlight. The film has become a critically-acclaimed success, partaking in 58 film festivals and awards shows around the world and winning awards at 36 of the events.
The film will be represented at the 77th Golden Globe Awards on January 5, where it is nominated for best director, best screenplay, and best foreign language film.
