Anyone who thought that the life of a K-Pop idol is nothing but glamorous rosiness, you might be disappointed.
While there are definitely perks, there are also quite a number of difficulties and horrible things that idols must deal with at some point throughout their career.
In fact, there are over thousands of talented individuals in South Korea who once were trainees, but didn’t end up debuting, and there are over three hundred girl groups in the industry alone, just to give you an idea of the competitive nature as well.
Below are four things that may make you reconsider about pursuing a career as an idol in the K-Pop industry.
Diet / Self-Management
As an idol, it’s part of the job to look the best you can.
This unfortunately means that while you don’t necessarily have to starve yourself all the time, you probably wont’ be able to eat anything you want as often as you’d like.
Especially when you’re getting ready for a comeback.
We know that gone are the days where idols starve themselves, as it would do no good for them in the long run as they have to perform, requiring lots of energy.
That’s great, but the discipline required for other elements of self-management is no joke.
As non-celebrities, it’s hard to imagine just how terrifying it really may be to have crazed fans who may also pose a threat to your life.
But the threat is real, and some idols even lost their life in extreme cases.
They’ll somehow find out your flight schedule and follow you around the airport as well.
Hate Comments & Rumors
Getting malicious comments and having false toxic rumors spread is bad enough for a non-celebrity if it ever happens. But imagine if it happened as a celebrity.
The whole world then starts to talk.
Some people believe that some idols took their own life due to this reason.
